The 2020 ATP season wrapped up with the traditional year-end event in London.
As we wait for the upcoming season to begin, there are a few stats that depict who’s been the most dominant this year. Novak Djokovic undoubtedly reigned supreme, but there’s a deserving entrant who also topped the charts!
We witnessed Novak Djokovic enjoy a near-invincible run in 2020, but he took damages during the second half of the season.
The Serbian faced a disappointing exit at US Open 2020 and he failed to bounce back after the miserable loss at Flushing Meadows.
Djokovic ended 2020 with just one Grand Slam to his name, his lowest tally since the 2017 season where he won none. Nonetheless, the 33-year-old finished 2020 as the World No.1 and recorded the best winning percentage.
Novak Djokovic won 89% of his matches played in 2020 and one would expect Rafael Nadal at second, but the Spaniard had to settle for the third spot.
Andrey Rublev finished ahead of Nadal, boasting an impressive 80% winning percentage.
Who Won The Most Number Of Matches In 2020?
The ATP tour faced a lot of hindrances in 2020 owing to the pandemic. The virus threatened to wipe out the whole calendar, but we fortunately got to see two Grand-Slams post the hiatus.
Even though Novak Djokovic had a bitter-sweet run in 2020, he still recorded the most wins for the season, but Rublev is tied with him this year.
Both athletes won 41 matches each and nobody even came close to them. Stefanos Tsitsipas came in third with 29 victories to his name, which speaks volumes about how the top two dominated the men’s circuit in 2020.
It was indeed a sensational year for Rublev and a breakthrough one, considering he entered the Top 10 for the first time in his career.
