A few weeks ago Rafael Nadal said that he is in the final stage of his career. The Spanish player, once he retires from the professional tour, will have more time for his new wife Maria Francisca Perello and for his investments.
Nadal and Mary would like to have up to three children, but as long as the Spanish champion plays on Tour, it will be difficult as he doesn’t want to make kids suffer while travelling around the world. Mery rarely follows her husband in tournaments – she attends the four Grand Slams and some European tournaments, and she also works at the Rafa Nadal Foundation.
Mery has an Administration and Directory degree. According to Pronto Magazine, once he retires Nadal would be ready to start running in an active way the companies that his family holds. ‘Xisca’ would help him with the activities.
Nadal aims to buy properties, make investments, own restaurants and – why not – see if there is a chance to get involved in the golf. Speaking to Marca some weeks ago Nadal had said: “Having family? I do not know, things are not easy to be predicted.
I thought that at this age I would have been already a former tennis player and that I would have started a family. For the way I think, I see a family with a more stable life and that’s what I would like to have. Years are going on but it always depends what happens with my tennis and with my career.”
Andy Murray set to face Rafael Nadal after virtual Madrid Open draw made
Andy Murray will swap his racket for a controller as he takes part in the virtual Madrid Open next week after the coronavirus pandemic cancelled the original event.
Most tennis players around the world are on lockdown in their own homes so the Madrid Open has been taken online.
The tournament will run from April 27 for three days and pits 32 of the top players in the world against one another.
There will be 16 ATP and 16 WTA stars in their own respective separate draws.
A huge prize fund of £131,000 is available for the winner of both competitions and they must decide how much of their winnings to donate to tennis players who are struggling financially during the pandemic.
The Madrid Open is also donating £44,000 to a local food bank in the Spanish capital.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who both have young families, are not taking part in the event.
But there is still a host of top class talent on show as 19-time Grand Slam winner Nadal headlines the tournament.
The draw was made on Friday afternoon and players were separated by their real life world rankings.
The four highest ranked players were split between the four groups and that continued for the rest of the draw.
Most players will be using themselves in the esports tournament but Murray will have to decide which character to control as the two-time Grand Slam winner is not in the Tennis World Tour video game.
Nadal and Murray are joined in their group by exciting Frenchman Gael Monfils and rising star Denis Shapovalov.
Two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem is the top seed in group two while Stefanos Tsitsipas and Fabio Fognini headline the third group.
Former world No 4 Alexander Zverev is the star attraction in the fourth group.
