Lionel Messi has become the first footballer in history to officially hit the 1000 mark for combined goals and assists.
The Argentine, who has spent the entirety of his senior career with Barcelona, ended a four-match streak without a goal in La Liga – incredibly, his longest drought since 2013 – with a four-goal haul against Eibar.
He completed his hat-trick by half-time and then added another for good measure in the second half. The latest goals take him to his latest barely believable milestone.
1000 Goals Broken Down
– He’s scored 696 goals and provided 306 assists for club and country.
– Of those 696 goals, 70 have come for Argentina, and 626 for Barcelona. He’s also scored 22 goals for Barcelona C and B, and Argentina’s Under-20s and Under-23s.
– He’s scored 37 goals against Sevilla, six more than any other team. Atletico (31), Valencia (28), and Real Madrid (26) are his next favourite victims.
– At international level, he’s scored five times against Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The most of any opponent.
– The side he’s assisted against the most often is Levante, setting up 19 goals.
