WWE SmackDown Live Superstar Roman Reigns discussed a bunch of topics on tonight’s WWE Backstage, and opened up on the highlight of his career.
The Big Dog stated that the coolest moment of his career was when he came out on the RAW after WrestleMania 33 and was showered with an incredibly loud chorus of boos, plus his iconic “This is my yard now” line.
At the Royal Rumble 2017 PPV, Reigns and The Undertaker were both featured in the annual free-for-all.
The Big Dog ended up eliminating The Phenom from the match, leading to an intense staredown between the two Superstars.
The events at Royal Rumble kicked off a heated rivalry between the two, that culminated in a dream match at The Show of Shows.
At WrestleMania 33, Reigns and The Undertaker went at it in the main event of the night. The match ended with Reigns pinning The Deadman and becoming the second WWE Superstar to do so at WrestleMania.
Reigns came out to open RAW the next night, and was met with arguably the biggest negative reaction in years.
WWE News: Roman Reigns praised by Buddy Murphy and labels him one of the ‘best wrestlers in the world’
Is anyone is going to have a breakout year in 2020, it may very well be Buddy Murphy.
The Australian star made a big impact on 205 Live in 2018, and that impressed top officials in WWE, who moved him to the main roster as part of the Superstar Shakeup.
Murphy remained unused though until the Summer, where he became embroiled in the Roman Reigns mystery attacker storyline.
It was at this point where Murphy would get his time to shine, taking on Reigns and then Daniel Bryan in consecutive weeks.
He ended up being defeated by the Big Dog, but he managed to score a surprise victory against Bryan, who put over many superstars last year, including Murphy’s former 205 Live sparring partner Mustafa Ali.
The one-on-one with Reigns though really showcased Murphy to a new audience, and it’s one he’s thanked and praised Roman for.
With the Roman match and being thrown into the mix with him – Roman was awesome to work with,” Murphy told Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT.
He kind of let me put my own little spin on it. It was more a Buddy Murphy match, so to speak.
“I know a lot of people in the internet wrestling community give Roman a lot of hate, ‘he can’t wrestle’ and whatever – Roman is one of the best wrestlers in the world and you can mark my word on that.
“And I feel like he opened up a lot of our eyes that he could do a match and hang with me, so to speak.
“I know a lot of people were saying I hung with Roman and that was the idea, but Roman hung with me!
“We had great chemistry together and I would wrestle him every day of the week.”
Roman’s character does still polarise opinion, but the amount of quality matches he’s had with the majority of the roster does tell you everything you need to know about his in-ring work.
And there’s no doubt he helped elevate Murphy as a character and performer when they had that SmackDown classic in August, and he’s now reaping the rewards as a Tag Team Champion.
