Duchess Kate lives a luxurious life but the Cambridges do normal things just like the rest of us! Life for the Duchess of Cambridge might seem like the height of luxury, but Kate Middleton tries to keep her little family down to earth. We tend to see Kate dressed in her finest on royal tours with Prince William or dazzling in ball gowns at charity galas. But the duchess is full of surprises.
She’s been known to step out in her skivvies and grace us with her presence in very public spaces. The family are apparently eager to escape ‘chaotic’ London too! From a toilet pit stop at a London pub to bargain hunting at The Range, we’ve uncovered the times Kate has lived a normal life just like the rest of us.
Popping to the pub: Back in 2018, Kate was driving through London when nature called. Princess Charlotte, then three, alerted her mum to her needs and the pair were forced to make a pitstop at The Phoenix pub in Stockwell. The pair turned heads as they entered the pub, quickly used the loo and departed within ten minutes – no pork scratchings were purchased! Maggie McKinney, a regular at the pub, told MailOnline at the time, “The little kiddie just trotted in with her mum, went to the toilet and then trotted out.”
She added, “Princess Charlotte was just any other little girl.” Kate’s sipped a few cheeky pub drinks at a Chelsea pub in the past. It’s believed that in 2019, the Duchess used a secret entrance at the Hollywood Arms to enjoy a ‘meet and greet’ party with parents from her childrens’ prep school – Thomas’s Battersea. The Mail on Sunday said the covert entrance, through a rear alley, was used by Prince Harry back when he was single!
Supermarket sweep: Shoppers in Hardwick, Norfolk, were stunned in 2019 when they met Kate Middleton in the aisles of Sainsbury’s! The Duchess was on the hunt for Halloween costumes for Prince George, then six, and Princess Charlotte, then four, ahead of the autumn holiday.
The Duchess, Kate Middleton has been known to take a trolley into the local shops
One local lady on her grocery run told The Sun, “It was lovely to see her [Kate] just being a normal mum shopping with her kids.” It’s not the first time Kate has been spotted shopping on the high street.
The previous year, she popped into The Range and filled a trolley full of pictures, children’s books and artist materials. Apparently, the Queen enjoys swapping modest, jokey gifts on Christmas eve – The Range is a great place to start!

Packed lunch for the Princess: While Prince George and Princess Charlotte enjoy a delicious lunch at school, they dine on packed lunch out of hours!
The royals eat packed lunches too
Kate’s been seen handing out pre-prepared snacks for her children on family days out. In 2019, the Cambridges and Sussexes got together to watch Prince William and Prince Harry take part in a charity polo match in Berkshire. Princess Charlotte was seen helping herself to a few tasty treats from inside an orange lunchbox – cute!
