Rafael Nadal: I’m not in that mindset where I want to compete
Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal admits he is not in the mindset to compete as he doesn’t believe the Tour will resume anytime soon. The Tour has been suspended since March 12 and the suspension will run until at least July 13.
Unfortunately, there isn’t too much optimism regarding the season resumption once the current suspension expires. The ATP will wait until the last moment as they hope the season still isn’t lost but multiple players have already stated they wouldn’t be surprised if the whole season gets eventually called off.
“I think I have internalized the issue and since I don’t see a quick solution, I’m not in that mindset where I want to compete. Right now my wish is to see my family and friends, make a party, go to the sea, to have the feeling of freedom,” Nadal said.
Nadal, 33, appeared in three events this year before the Tour was suspended. Nadal ended runner-up with Spain at the inaugural ATP Cup, before he was beaten by world No.
3 Dominic Thiem in the Australian Open quarterfinal. The Spaniard returned to action in Acapulco, where he made it all the way after beating Taylor Fritz in the final.
