John Cena did an interview with Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated where he spoke about a wide range of topics.
During the interview, he spoke about a potential appearance at WrestleMania 36, which is where he confirmed that he will be at the event and would do anything that Vince McMahon wants him to do.
Thus, it appears that if there are plans for him at the show, it’s staying under wraps for now.
“Performing at WrestleMania this year would be a gift. I haven’t been intertwined in the machine of the WWE. I know those WrestleMania spots are few and far between. I’ve expressed that I’m off. But I’ve also expressed that I live in Tampa. I will for sure be at the event and I have great trust in the process and I have great faith in Vince McMahon not only as a boss, but as so much more than that.
As a friend, as a mentor. If he were to tell me that he needs me, I would absolutely be active in whatever capacity, whether it would be like last year in New York rapping my way to the ring or the year before being a fan in the stands. There is no job too small. “
It was reported several weeks ago that WWE has big plans for Cena at WrestleMania 36. For more on that, click here.
WWE holds the WrestleMania 36 pay-per-view event on Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium.
WWE News: John Cena has confirmed he will be at WrestleMania 36
John Cena has confirmed he will be at WrestleMania 36 later this year in Tampa.
Cena took a step back from WWE last year in order to focus on other projects, and it ended up being his first year in the past 17 years that he hadn’t worked a match on any pay-per-view.
He did make appearances throughout the year, most notably appearing at WrestleMania 35 in a spot with Elias, but he never had a match.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the 16-time world champion spoke about his future in WWE, where he said he will be at WrestleMania 36 on April 5.
He said: “Performing at WrestleMania this year would be a gift. I haven’t been intertwined in the machine of the WWE. I know those WrestleMania spots are few and far between. I’ve expressed that I’m off. But I’ve also expressed that I live in Tampa.
“I will for sure be at the event and I have great trust in the process and I have great faith in Vince McMahon not only as a boss, but as so much more than that. As a friend, as a mentor.
“If he were to tell me that he needs me, I would absolutely be active in whatever capacity, whether it would be like last year in New York rapping my way to the ring or the year before being a fan in the stands. There is no job too small.”
A match for Cena is long overdue in WWE, as he last wrestled for the company in January last year in a number one contenders match for the Universal title against Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and the winner of that match, Finn Balor.
Recently, Cena spoke about possible retirement from the ring, as he stated he wanted to hang up his wrestling gear before his body forces him to.
Now he’s confirmed he will be at WrestleMania 36, whether it be as a performer or as a fan, perhaps WWE will give him one last hurrah in the ring before retiring and riding off into the sunset.
