Former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray reportedly turned down at least one deal worth more than £1 million to sell his wedding photographs to a host of hopeful magazines.
Murray reportedly rejected at least one seven-figure sum for exclusive shots of his wedding to fiancée Kim Sears with privacy cited as the reason behind the decision. Well-known titles OK! And Hello! were among the host of major publications desperate to land a deal with Murray for photos of his wedding, according to the report in the Scotsman.
However, Murray and Sears were apparently so keen on keeping the day entirely private with just close friends and family in attendance that they snubbed every lucrative offer which has come their way. The couple got married at Dunblane Cathedral on Saturday with the subsequent private reception to be held at Murray’s own £1.8m hotel, Cromlix House.
The Times quoted a source close to the couple as saying, “All the magazines you can think of made offers — seven-figure sums — but Andy and Kim are not interested. “It doesn’t sit with the type of people they are. It’s not about money. “They do not want a glitzy wedding,” the source added.
It is clearly apparent that it is not about the money for Murray and Sears, with the British number one worth an estimated $165 millio, and privacy is the undoubted priority for the couple.
According to The Times, Murray was told by Sears to return immediately for preparations, including a final dress fitting. Murray confirmed in a US interview that he will have three best men, including his brother Jamie, while Sue Barker, Tim Henman and James Corden will be among the guests.
Murray, who met Sears in 2005, joked during a recent interview that he wore a kilt with no underwear and it seems that he will come under pressure to sport the attire. “Judy and Kim want him to wear the kilt,” Kinloch Anderson, the designer of Murray’s customised tartan kilt, told The Times. “I think the women around him are strong enough to persuade him.”
