23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams is a fierce competitor and one of the all-time tennis greats.
The legendary American has been tailing her 24th Grand Slam for the past three years. Post motherhood, Serena has been struggling to get a taste of a Grand Slam victory.
Williams last felt the Grand Slam euphoria at the 2017 Australian Open which took her past legend Steffi Graf’s 22 Major mark and now the unfinished Serena revealed that the urge to equal Margaret Court’s incredible haul of 24 Grand Slam titles is what makes her sweat it out in training.
The Australian tennis great has held the record since 1973.
Quite frankly the only reason I’m still playing: Williams
Still competing at an age hitting which most players consider dropping the game, Serena Williams stands as an exception.
Giving an insight into what makes her compete for titles at an age when most players consider retirement or are already retired, the urge to equal Court’s incredible haul of Grand Slam is what “quite frankly the only reason” she’s still playing, admitted the American in an interview with the American business magazine Fast Company.
However, despite failing to add to her Grand Slam haul over the last three years, the 23 time Grand Slam champion hasn’t lost sight of her career goal.
Williams still possesses the identical hunger of a rookie before competing at Majors and the same is anticipated at the much-awaited opening Grand Slam of 2021, Australian Open starting February 8th, where, she will aim for her elusive 24th Grand Slam.
