Serena Williams’ husband reveals some marriage ‘cheat codes’ he lives by. Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams’ marriage is definitely enviable and spot-on marriage goals! Still going strong after over two years of marriage, the couple, who have an adorable daughter are always candid about their relationship and marriage values.
In an interview with Allure last month, Serena showered praises on her husband, who she said is so supportive and always allows her to be herself.
“Alexis doesn’t dim my light. He doesn’t try to dim my light. He puts me in the light, even if I don’t want to be. He pushes me to further points I never thought about. It always was something that I could see in some relationships — my light would be dimmer. Now I feel like I can shine really bright and still do everything that I want to do,” she said.
In a feature written on Glamour, Ohanian dropped some essential gems on how he is able to keep his family so closely knit, adding more reason to why Serena appreciates him.
“I try to be the most supportive partner I can be and to have conversations with her about her career goals and what she can do to reach them,” he wrote. “Most of my talks with Serena about her career have come from a place of “What do you want to be doing?” or “Where do you want to be?””
Playing down some of the publicized extravagant gestures he has done for his wife in the past, Ohanian wrote: “I get it; these are pretty extravagant gestures. But I think if you were to ask my wife, or many other people in relationships, it’s often the simpler things that are the most important. You have to show up. You have to be supportive. These are the things that matter.”
The co-founder of Initialized Capital and Reddit also spoke highly of his parents, claiming he got the partnership “cheat code” from them – there you go!
“I credit my parents with a lot of what I’ve learned about partnership and relationships,” he wrote. “It wasn’t always easy, but my parents were partners in the truest sense.
By watching them up close, I learned what it means to be supportive, how to make compromises without sacrificing yourself, and how to show up in the ways that matter.” Another adorable secret he dropped was his Sunday ritual with the family, which was also something his parents did.
“So on Sunday mornings I make breakfast for the family and it doesn’t cost me a thing, except for gluten-free flour (I had to modify Dad’s recipe a bit), some eggs, almond milk, a secret ingredient, and berries (Olympia loves raspberries),” he wrote.
“There are no phones, just conversation. And we’ll spend the day together lounging around the house, or playing hide-and-seek, or going for a swim in the pool. Just being a family on those days means so much to both of us,” he added.
