While some people hit it off on apps, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian were out here waiting for the stars to align just right to make their love connection.
Okay, so maybe they didn’t quite ~know~ astrology was working in their favor at the time, but Linda Joyce, astrologer and author who analyzed both their charts, says that was exactly what went down when they met in Rome on May 12, 2015. “The day they met, Pluto was at the top of Serena’s chart, in her 10th house.
This is often an indication that your world is about to change,” Joyce explains. And though she wasn’t actively looking for a partner, Serena would have known the connection was right soon after the tech founder struck up a conversation because Jupiter was conjunct her Mars in Leo, Joyce says.
Alexis, on the other hand, knew instantly, she explains. He was more than ready for Serena—he was ready to both lift her up and challenge her because his Sun and Mars were on Serena’s Ascendants, the entryway to someone’s soul. And because his Saturn was conjunct with Serena’s 7th house of relationships, “things were serious for him from the beginning,” Joyce says.
See, Saturn is all about being realistic, so you know Alexis had no interest in fooling around.
From that day on, neither Alexis nor Serena have looked back. In fact, astrology has played into their marriage in more ways than one—which explains why we can’t get enough of Serena and Alexis always going hard for each other.
Ahead, every astrological detail that explains why this couple has been cosmically blessed and relationship goals since day one.
They agree on the important things.
Having compatible sun signs is a biggie, says Joyce, but “there are so many other [astrological factors] that can make a relationship work.” Both Serena, a Libra, and Alexis, a Taurus, are ruled by Venus—the planet that rules relationships and love. This means “they both have a need for harmony, balance, and the truth,” Joyce explains. And because they consider the same things important, they’ve been able to consistently be emotionally and physically present for each other and their family.
Take Alexis’ 16 weeks paternity leave to be with their daughter, Olympia, and his taking that fight for paternity leave to Congress, says Joyce. Like his wife, Alexis is a perfectionist. And while some might call their determination for the best idealism, they really do believe they can make everything they want a reality, and if they can’t they’ll have at least given it their best shot.
They’re emotionally in sync, too.
“The Moon is a good indicator as to how a relationship works,” says Joyce. And Alexis and Serena both have their Moons in Virgo. “This would provide an instant emotional connection and understanding of each other’s feelings,” she adds, since Virgo rules the way people work and how dedicated they are to it.
I mean, we’re talking about the greatest tennis player of all time and the co-founder of one of the most popular discussion websites, here. When it comes to drive, it makes sense that Serena and Alexis would just get each other. And because of this similar mindset, Joyce says it’s easier for them to “neutralize problems” and work in harmony despite their very different fields.
They never have and never will try to outshine each other.
“The most important thing about Serena and Alexis’ connection is how they handle power,” says Joyce. Serena has a whopping six planets in one house, which is super unusual. It gives her near obsessive qualities associated with that house, she adds. In Serena’s case, this alignment makes her all about health and work.
“Her Sun, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury all give her focus, inner strength, perseverance, and good health,” and she’s not about to let just anyone interfere with all that. And given that Venus is in her seventh house of relationships, “love had to be deep, and life transforming,” says Joyce. That’s exactly what Alexis’ love is for Serena.
Alexis’ sunrise chart shows how seriously he takes relationships and how attracted he is to strong and powerful partners who are as independent as he is. Because he can relate to Serena’s focus, he easily became the person she relies on when life doesn’t go as planned.
“If neither of them was strong in their own right, this relationship would not work,” Joyce points out. “They make each other happy, because of who they are and not what they need from each other.”
