A street from Mallorcan village Sant Llorenc will be named after Rafael Nadal. This decision came after the Spaniard was honored with the title of “Adoptive Son” of the small-town. Nadal received the title as a rewards for his heroic deeds in October 2018 when the village was struck by a terrible flood and left many victims behind.
The decision was taken by Sant Llorenç des Cardassar City Council on Friday after a minute of silence held at 13:00 in honor of the victims of the flood. A plenary session is scheduled to make the decision definite.
The council motivated their decision to reward world number one Rafael Nadal by pointing out that his altruist actions, along with those of other thousands of people, enabled the town “to move towards normality quickly”.
Besides this, Nadal was praised because he joined an army of volunteers who “helped to remove mud with their bare hands,” organized a solidarity race, and donated 1 million euros to the victims.
Moreover, the City Council said Rafa expressed his affection for the village and the communities in it many times and that makes him a special person who deserves to be praised.
“Rafa Nadal will be named ‘Adoptive Son’ of Sant Llorenç, the village from Mallorca which suffered a tragic flood two years ago.
Rafa Nadal took part in the clean-up tasks as a volunteer and offered to put the victims up at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar’s facilities.
He also made a donation to help the victims and contribute to repairing the damage that had been caused,” Rafa Nadal Foundation wrote on Instagram.

On Friday, exactly two years have passed since the flood damaged the little Mallorcan village on October 9th, 2018, leaving many homes and businesses in despair.
According to the Mallorca Daily Bulletin, the disaster affected around 35,000 people. As we learned above, Nadal helped the villagers cope with the tragic event.
