It is all starting to happen for the World No. 3 Naomi Osaka in terms of popularity.
Following her exclusive apparel line with Nike, she will now be part of the Japanese manga culture.
For a magazine called “Nakayoshi”, the manga will be published under the title ‘Unrivaled Naomi Tenka-ichi’ and is governed by her sister. The title translates as ‘Naomi without equal’.
The Japanese player Osaka also won her third Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows in New York this year. Being a former World No 1, she is looking to get to take the top spot again.
However, the pandemic induced rules and restrictions kept her out for most of the season. For now, she only is waiting for December 28, the day when the manga will be published.
“Reading manga bonded me and my sister immensely”: Naomi Osaka
Originating from Japan, manga comics are well-known all-around the world. The graphical novels are also accepted as an art-form and have influenced generations since the 19th century.
For the Japanese-born Osaka, it would be impossible to grow up without some manga.
She tweeted, “Growing up reading manga, watching anime was something that bonded me and my sister immensely so this is really exciting for both of us.”
Along with the caption, she embedded a picture of her and the character she has inspired.
Next season, Naomi will play in the 2021 Australian Open where she won in 2019. Interestingly, from 2018 to 2020, the 23-year-old has won a Grand Slam every year.
Her first two Major titles came back-to-back at the 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open. However, it is still unclear when the first Grand Slam of the year will commence.
Osaka is the first Asian player to be World No. 1 in tennis
In terms of marketable athletes, Naomi is touching new heights every season. This is because of her strong character on and off the tennis court.
Hence, it is only profitable to devise a character from her many qualities. Her ethnic multi-cultural background is also one of the factors that make her unique.
The Haitian-Japanese-American player’s Nike apparel line is a tribute to her all three cultures. With the manga comics about her, an extensive take on her is to be expected.
Lastly, even though the Australian Open has not fixed the dates, Osaka will be there to give her best too.
