The American President, Donald Trump, congratulated Serena Williams following her 6-3 6-4 win over fellow American Jessica Pegula in the final of the ASB Classic on Sunday. “Congratulations to Serena Williams on another big win,” Trump wrote on his Twitter, where he is followed by 70 millions people.
“She is a great player and an even greater person”. It is not the first time that Trump congratulates the 38-year-old. In 2015, after the opening of a new tennis facility at the Trump National Golf Club, they had hit a few balls together, and in 2016, following Serena’s victory at Wimbledon, Trump had tweeted, “Way to go Serena Williams – you are a true champion.
Proud of you!” The ASB Classic marked Serena’s sixth final since giving birth to her daughter Olympia, and her first title as a mother. The youngest of the two Williams also reached the doubles final playing with her long time friend Caroline Wozniacki, who is set to retire at the 2020 Australian Open.

The pair was defeated 6-4 6-4 by Taylor Townsend and Asia Muhammad to end up as runner-up. After her singles final, the World No. 9 announced she would donate her entire Auckland prize money to the Australian bushfire relief funds.
She also put on auction the dresses she wore during her matches. The 23-Grand Slam champion will try to tie Margaret Court’s all time record of 24 Majors at the Australian Open, but admitted last week that she “really wanted to enjoy this year”.
