Dolores Aveiro has written a message to well wishers on social media: “It was a bit of a shock. I’d like to thank the medical team who have looked after me”.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro has posted an optimistic health update from hospital. She is recovering after suffering a cerebral vascular accident (CVA) at home in Funchal, Portugal on Monday and has taken to social media to thank all of the people who have been looking after her as well as those who have wished her a speedy recovery.
Dolores Aveiro’s message
“Dear everyone, this isn’t a typical message from me, I won’t be staying here for much longer, just to say that I am recovering well (I know I have been complaining about being cooped up in bed for hours) but I know that it’s for my own good. In a few days’ time, hopefully I will be back to my normal routine.
“It was all just a shock, I’m fine, I am aware of what happened and realise that I have been very lucky. I would like to thank the medical team and all of the professionals who have been with me from the first moment, I’d also like to say thank you for the constant messages of support (I haveb’t been reading them but my daughter Katia has been keeping me up to date with everything that is happening).
“Thank you for the Prayer Chain and the positive energy I have been sent from all parts, thanks to my dea children, grandchildren, brothers and friends. I’ll be back soon onto, until then, I would like to thank you for your understanding and for respecting my privacy. I just thought it would be worthwhile to write a few words. Although I have dictated all I wanted to say in this message. Thank You everyone”.

Cristiano by his mother’s side
Dolores has had her family constantly by her side during her time in hospital. Earlier this week, Cristiano Ronaldo took a private plane from Turin to be with his mother. He was accompanied by Georgina and his oldest son, and returned to Italy 24 hours later, relieved to learn that his mother was out of danger and on the mend even though she had to spend a few more hours in intensive care.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother says she’s recovering after stroke
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother said on Thursday that she was “recovering well” from the stroke that brought the Portuguese star hurrying to her bedside in Madeira earlier in the week.
“In a few days, God willing, I will be able to resume my normal life,” wrote 65-year-old Dolores Aveiro on her Instagram account.
“I am aware of everything that has happened to me and fully aware that I have been very lucky.”
On Tuesday, the 35-year-old Ronaldo skipped training with his club Juventus and flew to Madeira with his wife and one of his sons.
Ronaldo was expected to depart on Wednesday in time for the second leg of Juve’s Italian Cup semi-final with AC Milan that evening, but the match was cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, former star of Manchester United and Real Madrid and captain of Portugal asked for privacy on the matter.
