World No.1 Novak Djokovic has decided not to play at the upcoming Rolex Paris Masters 2020. He has taken such a decision because he could not add new points in the ATP rankings at the tournament. The Serbian is certainly eyeing to break an exceptional record in the history of tennis.
If things go as planned, on 8th March 2021, Djokovic will break Roger Federer‘s record of staying on the top spot for the most weeks. He spoke extensively about that in a recent interview.
“I will not play masters in Paris, because I cannot win new points there. That’s why I’m going to Vienna and London. I didn’t play in Vienna last year and I can win up to 500 points, and there are a lot of points in the game in London as well,” said a cheerful Djokovic.
Federer remained No.1 for a total of 310 weeks. Djokovic has been the World No.1 for a total of 291 weeks at the moment. He certainly had an advantage in the long-break where there was no tennis due to the coronavirus pandemic. But, what has also been amazing is that despite losing the French Open 2020 to Rafael Nadal, he is still 1890 points ahead of the Spaniard.
‘I will dedicate it to my mother and wife’- Novak Djokovic
International Women’s Day falls on 8th March every year. The World No.1 surely wants to make it a special one in 2021. If he breaks the record, Djokovic has decided to dedicate it to the two pillars of his life.
“That’s right, I can break the record for March 8. If that happens, I will dedicate it to my mother and wife,” added the 33-year-old.
Though Djokovic is confident, he was not in a mood to underestimate anyone. He just believed that he was certainly in a great position to break the record especially after working so hard for it.
“I am not sure yet that I will break the record because it depends on Nadal and Tim how it will go by the end of the year, as well as on the next Australian Open, but I am in a very good position. It’s good for me. I now have almost 2,000 points more than Nadal, and that is a huge advantage, and I will try to use these opportunities,” concluded Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic has been phenomenal this year. He won the Australian Open 2020 title. He got eliminated from the US Open 2020 in an unfortunate manner. It was the French Open 2020 where he lost to Nadal in the finals. This was the first time he suffered a loss in the year 2020. Thus, this is a golden opportunity for the 17-time Grand Slam winner to add his name to the record’s list.
