While it is a dream of many players to team up alongside LeBron James, NBA’s ‘Superman’ Dwight Howard already partners him in suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers. In a recent Instagram session, the 34-year-old explained his admiration and “shock” of playing with the King.
Recently, Dwight Howard and fellow teammate Jared Dudley connected with each other through Instagram live. While the pair discussed several topics, Dwight was seen showering praise upon LeBron James at one point. Being fierce rivals for the past 15-years, the eight-time All-Star still finds it unbelievable that he’s sharing the same locker room as the four-time champion.
“Man, it’s been wild, man. I remember telling my sister, man, me and LeBron been playing against each other since we were 15, 16 years old. And I was like, man, we’ll never play with each other, you know. We always like playing against each other. All of a sudden, we end up teammates. I couldn’t believe it. And I’m like wow, this is crazy, I’m playing with LeBron James. It’s still shocking…We like brothers from another mother. It’s crazy, it’s crazy.”
The journey of LeBron James and Dwight Howard in the NBA
One can certainly agree with Howard’s feelings about playing alongside the best in the league. LeBron entered the NBA as the first overall pick in 2003, while Howard came in as the top prospect the very next year. Being the first overall picks, both players had something to prove, and their qualities are undeniable.
Though the pair is immensely competitive in the NBA, the two knew each other from their teenage days. Both still have a profound love and respect for one another. While Howard peaked in the late 2000s with his extraordinary rebounding skills, we never get tired of mentioning the impact LeBron has in the NBA.
The 6-foot-10 Howard gained a lot of fans for himself with his stunning dunks that made a viewer drop their jaw in astonishment. Bron and Howard’s best matchup came in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Playing for Orlando Magic, Howard got the better of LeBron in this one. His team outplayed the Cavaliers 4-2 and booked their second-ever finals spot in franchise history. However, King James was extraordinary with his individual stats, but just couldn’t push his team up as much as he pushed himself.
However, the two are teammates now. So far, they have carried the Lakers to the top of the Western Conference. LeBron, who is in his 17th year, still plays with the same hunger and passion to win. With the experience of Howard to support him, LeBron may succeed in the quest for his fourth NBA title after all.
