With the CDC urging Americans to practice social distancing for the next eight weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak, it’s time to get comfortable with being indoors for an extended period of time. For some, this might be the ideal time to tackle a new hobby, for others it means finally organizing and cleaning your home just in time for spring, or it could even be as simple as enjoying a little R&R.
Even celebrities are faced with time away from work during this difficult and stressful time. But for Serena Williams, she’s embracing it—and that means more time spent with family and focusing on her self-care.
“Spending the next next weeks in solitude,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Being a wife. Being a mom. Cooking. Cleaning. Spring cleaning. Face mask. Makeup tutorials.”
She concluded, “I’ll let you know how it goes…stay safe everyone. This is serious.”
Though this is a stressful, unpredictable time for everyone, it’s important to take advantage of this time—like Williams—and embrace spending time with loved ones.
Other celebrities, including Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, have been battling the novel coronavirus as Hollywood shuts down to protect its talent. Also, the sports world has been put on hold as the NBA, NHL and MLB have all suspended their seasons.
Alison Riske: “Serena Williams is really special”
At the beginning of 2019 she was out of the top 60, today Alison Riske is number 19 in the world. The American tennis player has made significant progress in the past season. By 2020 the American player is destined to go even higher.
Her best performances at Grand Slam tournaments include reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2020, the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2019 (where she defeated world No. 1 and reigning French Open champion Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round) and the fourth round of the US Open in 2013.
She has had numerous career wins over current and former top 10 players such as Elina Svitolina, Sloane Stephens, Petra Kvitová, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Agnieszka Radwańska, Kiki Bertens, Belinda Bencic, CoCo Vandeweghe, Flavia Pennetta, Eugenie Bouchard, Garbiñe Muguruza, Angelique Kerber, Kiki Bertens, and Caroline Garcia.
In a recent interview, Riske talked about her compatriot Serena Williams: “I definitely think it’s a thing now, players are lasting a little bit longer. Again, Serena is a rarity, she’s really special. It’s hard to compare people to that standard.
But I do think that at 34-35, players are still able to produce good tennis,” Alison Riske told Times of India. “I definitely don’t see myself stopping and having a kid and then coming back. Stephen and I actually talked about that a bit, we were together on trying to take the career to a point where I feel like I’m satisfied and now I’m ready to have a family,” Riske added.
“And then just call it a day. I think we’re going to give it a little bit more time and play for as long as I can. It’s really cool that he’s in agreement with that”.
