It’s been a meaningful period since the boxing fans demanded a title unification bout between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. To be more precise, it’s not about the titles. It’s about two of the greatest boxers of this generation going against each other to find out who is the better boxer. Both Wilder and Joshua have given many narratives about how the other party is ducking to accept the unification fight.
Lou DiBella Makes Shocking Revelation about Joshua vs Wilder
However, Wilder’s former co-manager, Lou DiBella talked to IFL TV and revealed that Wilder once backed out of the fight against Anthony Joshua. DiBella set up a meeting involving himself Wilder, Al Haymon, and Shelly Finkel to convince DAZN’s executive chairman John Skipper for a showdown with Anthony Joshua. DiBella stated:
“My relationship professionally as a promoter for Deontay Wilder and working with his team ended when I set up the DAZN meeting, which is perverse. What did I do? I tried to talk to everyone in the marketplace and make the best effort to make the most money for a guy that I cared about. Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do?”
Reportedly, DAZN offered Deontay Wilder a three-fight deal that included two fights with Anthony Joshua and a title defense against Dominic Breazeale. Though the Bronze Bomber was initially thrilled with the idea he later backed out from the proposition. Wilder was offered close to 100 million dollars for the three-fight deal with DAZN.
Anthony Joshua Responds to Deontay Wilder ducking title unification fight
After Lou DiBella revealed this narrative,Anthony Joshua was quick to respond to Deontay Wilder for ducking a unification bout. ironically, Wilder is usually the one who keeps saying that he wants to unify all the heavyweight titles. However, after the revelation from Wilder’s ex-promoter, Joshua stated: “When the loyalties gone the truth shall prevail”.
Deontay Wilder takes on Tyson Fury in an much-anticipated rematch on February 22. Both the fighters will be stepping into the ring to settle the unfinished business. While Anthony Joshua is likely to take on Kubrat Pulev with the IBF title on the line.
Joshua slams Deontay Wilder
ANTHONY Joshua dragged Deontay Wilder on social media after the WBC champion’s former promoter claimed talks over a unification fight were always doomed.
Lou DiBella, who co-promoted Wilder until 2018, worked alongside Al Haymon and the Bronze Bomber’s current manager Shelly Finkel. But after Wilder’s draw with Tyson Fury in 2018, DiBella made moves to try and come to terms with three-belt champion, Joshua.
DiBella set up meeting with DAZN, Haymon, Finkel and Wilder and claims that decision cost him his position on the American’s team. The promoter insists he was exiled after that meeting, telling IFL TV:
“My relationship professionally as a promoter for Deontay Wilder and working with his team ended when I set up the DAZN meeting, which is perverse.
“What did I do? I tried to talk to everyone in the marketplace and make a best effort to make the most money for a guy that I cared about. ‘Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do?’ Joshua was quick to spot the news and reacted on social media by slamming Wilder.
“When the loyalties gone, the truth shall prevail,” Joshua wrote on his Instagram, alongside a picture of DiBella and Wilder paired with the promoter’s comments.
