It’s not uncommon for tennis players to break rackets on court during their matches… Most of the top stars have done it at some point in their careers – some have broken multiple rackets in one outburst while others are known to have broken many rackets in several matches in their careers.
However, former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova, who announced her retirement from tennis, revealed that she has never broken a racket on court during her entire career.
That’s 856 matches in her professional career where she did not break a racket (645/ 171 win-loss record in singles and 23/ 17 win-loss record in doubles as per the WTA Tour website).
Sharapova made the comment after a Twitter user pointed out the fact that she had never broken a racquet in 18 years of her career to which the Russian commented that she had never done so in a match but had certainly done so in practice.
After winning five Grand Slams in her career and being plagued by injuries during the past season, the Russian announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 32.
She has said that she would continue to work on other goals in her life, which include expanding her business ventures.
She also appeared on the television show Shark Tank on Friday.
