Through Twitter, the Australian legend Rod Laver praised Rafael Nadal.
Laver, who was at Wimbledon these two weeks, was admired by the Spaniard’s effort in trying to beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and possibly winning the trophy after having a great clay-court season.
‘He proved to be superhuman at Wimbledon – to win Roland Garros and come very close here on grass is truly amazing.
Possibly the greatest athlete our sport has ever known.’ Laver had also made a prediction for Wimbledon.
He picked it at half. ‘For the Wimbledon final I am going with (Novak) Djokovic to win a tough contest in 4.
Kevin Anderson is a wonderful player with a big heart and he’ll fight all the way. But Novak is back to his best so I can’t go past him to win’.
Anderson wasted a set point in the third set. After the final, Laver wrote: ‘Bravo Nole – a commanding performance worthy of 50 years of Open tennis.
I am sure there will be many more crowns to come. Your comeback is inspirational.’
