Williams and Murray formed a power-couple in the mixed doubles draw having won 26 Grand Slam single’s titles between them.
The pair put on a show in the opening three rounds but ultimately failed to progress any further.
American Williams thinks playing alongside the Brit helped her improve her single’s form, where she faces Simona Halep in the final this afternoon.
The 37-year-old admitted after her semi-final win over Barbora Strycova that her volleying has become stronger after spending time with Murray.
“I promise you, when I hit a volley I was like, ‘Would I have made that if I didn’t play doubles?’ I don’t think so,” Williams said.
“I kept telling you guys I thought the doubles would help me. I really think it did.
“I don’t attack the net that much. I tried to and I want to.
“I know, like, when I do, when I play doubles here with Venus, it definitely helps my singles game. I was really keen to play mixed here.
“I really feel like it helped me, not just for today and this event, but hopefully it will help me just in the future.”
Williams has won nine of her previous 10 meetings with Halep and their only previous clash on grass came at Wimbledon in 2011.
Much has changed for Halep since then as she has climbed to No 1 in the world rankings and won the French Open title.
But she has seen a drop in form over the last year, but Williams is still cautious of her rival.
“There’s so many impressive things about her,” Williams said.
Simon Halep
“I think obviously her tenacity. I think her ability to improve every time, just to keep improving.
“Her ability to find power. Can’t underestimate her. She’s like a little powerhouse.
“Obviously, yeah, she finished the year No 1 twice in a row.
“I feel like she’s back. She wants to prove that she can do it again.”
