Who is Alexander Gilkes?
Alexander Gilkes is a British businessman from London on 16 July Eton College, Berkshire and University of Bristol. Gilkes is known to have befriended Prince Harry during his college days.
He moved to New York in 2008, and has been living there since then. In 2011, he co-founded an online auction house named Paddle 8 in 2011 and he is currently its president.
Before Paddle 8, Gilkes served as an auctioneer at Phillips de Pury & Company and an executive at LVMH. He has acted as an auctioneer for many high-profile auctions. He currently serves on the board of the New York Academy of Art.
Gilkes has been in the list of 100 Most Powerful People in the Art World (Art + Auction) for three consecutive years in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was also one of Fast Company’s Most Creative Entrepreneurs in 2017.
When did Sharapova and Gilkes meet?
Gilkes was actually married before Sharapova. He was married to fashion designer, Misha Nonoo, who later split up. Their divorce was reported to have been completed in 2017. A year later, rumours of Gilkes dating Sharapova came up. After initial rumours, Sharapova confirmed a few months later that the duo were dating, although there weren’t any talks of marriage or getting engaged.

Maria Sharapova’s first date after becoming a pro tennis player is known to be Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine. The relationship did not last long and the duo broke up soon. Later, in 2011, Slovenian basketball player Sasha Vujacic and Sharapova got engaged after being together for two years. But the engagement broke after an year.
Sharapova was also known to be with fellow tennis player Grigor Dimitrov for three years between 2012 and 2015.
