Novak Djokovic hasn’t experienced defeat since November at the Davis Cup.

Novak Djokovic’s complete game means he is well placed to extend his unbeaten run when the ATP Tour resumes after the six-week suspension. That is the view of former women’s No 1 and Tennis Channel analyst Tracy Austin.

It was announced on Thursday that the men’s professional tennis tour would go into an immediate six-week hiatus due to the ongoing global coronavirus crisis.

The outbreak resulted in the cancellation of the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday just days before it was due to start.

ut following several days of talks, it was confirmed that six other tournaments would also be called off.

The suspension runs up to the week beginning April 27 when the BMW Open and Estoril Open are due to take place.

Should the tour resume as planned, Djokovic will likely make his return at the Madrid Open in May, where he’ll be arriving with a 21-match winning streak.

In that period, the world No 1 has won the ATP Cup, Australian Open and the Dubai Championships.

His best unbeaten run came between the end of 2010 and 2011 when he won 43 matches in a row before losing to Roger Federer at the French Open.

But the Serbian is currently playing some of the best tennis of his career and will be a major threat to Rafael Nadal heading into Roland Garros.

And in a discussion on Tennis Channel about Djokovic’s perfect start to the year, Austin gave an ominous message to the rest of men’s tennis.

She said: “Obviously it is perfect. When Novak is in this mindset, when he is playing this well, when he is healthy, it is so tough to get through him and around him.

“He has got offense, defence, the mental toughness, the confidence even when he is down match point.

“You just feel like he is going to come up with the shots that he needs. It is very difficult to see anyone beating him on a consistent basis.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic is yet to comment on the suspension of tennis for six weeks but the world No 3 Dominic Thiem told fans the decision was made to keep fans safe.

He tweeted: “Unfortunately we have to wrap up and leave without playing a tournament here in the states!

“I’m very sorry for all the fans and people who worked hard the entire year to make these tournaments special and unique.

“At the moment we have to accept the decision and do our best to keep everybody healthy and safe!

“I’m already looking forward to hit some balls again and will keep all of you updated as soon as I get some news!”
