Andy Murray has opened up to the cameras and the public for the first time ever in a ‘warts and all’ documentary as he recovers from hip surgery, but the film wouldn’t have been made without a strong family connection.
The Andy Murray documentary ‘Resurfacing’ is released to the general public on Friday but it’s only thanks to Murray’s relationship with his wife’s brother that the revealing film could be made.
The director of the film is Olivia Cappuccini who just happens to be the fiancee of Scott Sears, brother of Any Murray’s wife Kim.
Cappuccini said before the film premier last night, “Andy hasn’t even seen the film the whole way through. Kim has seen it but she’s only watched two cuts of it.
At no stage did she say that’s a bit too sensitive. There are some very raw moments in there that are close to the bone for the family and I’m amazed that we were able to keep them in in the way we wanted to.”
Murray will now spend time in Florida for his traditional warm weather winter training camp in preparation for his first Grand Slam singles tournament since his hip was resurfaced earlier this year.
Murray’s last outing in Australia was his now infamous 5 set loss to Roberto Bautista Agut which was followed by a press conference where Murray tearfully and prematurely announced his retirement from the game.
