The USA’s one of the richest self-made women, Serena Williams not just has an unprecedented legacy in tennis, she has also contributed immensely to the field of entrepreneurship. Last year her estimated net worth was around $225 million. And the majority of the revenue was earned by blending her ‘brain and brand’.
Williams shared about managing her entrepreneurial works, alongside her full-time job as a professional tennis player and a mother. “Something I do every day is [to] completely turn my brain off, which sounds weird but because I work so much between tennis and running my other properties—Serena Ventures and Serena Clothing,” she said.
Serena Ventures (a firm that funds companies to launch their business) and Serena Clothing have been her prominent business endeavors. She regularly invests capital in various other enterprises.
One of them being, an investment in an Indonesian coffee chain, where Williams and Billionaire rapper Jay-Z came together to back the growth of the coffee firm.
She often seeks investment-related advice from her longtime friend and Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg. And most of the time she is reliant on her husband Alexis Ohanian.
Serena Williams on refreshing her mind
The only female sportsperson to be ranked inside the Forbes’ Top-100 highest-paid athletes, Serena Williams mentioned her stress buster activities.
“But it’s a lot so I just need to turn my brain off and not think about anything. Sometimes it’s mediation. Sometimes it’s watching a program [on TV] that has nothing to do with anything, like something that is silly or fun,” she added.
“It’s a lot easier now because I can just watch my baby. It really helps me to focus on her and focus on the moment and not think about anything else. And I purposely do that with her because I know that I just need to shut off. It allows me to reset. And get more energized to go train the next day or take more work calls,” Williams said.
On the WTA courts, World Number nine Serena Williams was last seen at the Australian Open 2020 and turned out to be a third-round upset. Later she played at the Fed Cup tie against Latvia. She supported Team USA to earn a spot in Fed Cup finals in Budapest, Hungary. This month she’ll be seen on the courts of Indian Wells and Miami.
