In an interview with La Repubblica, Venus Williams commented on how her sister Serena influenced her life and career. Venus has been dealing with Sjogren Syndrome since 2011 but at 38 years of age, she is still competing. “She has always been my inspiration”, said Venus.
“She taught me many things. Sisters often get involved in a competition. That never happened to me. Our parents grew us in order to be best friends too: we were never allowed to argue each other.”
Between tennis and her fashion line: where does she find the time to do everything? “I do not get into an obsession.
If I do not manage to end a thing, I tell myself, I will do it tomorrow. I try to do what I can when I can. I do not want to get crazy or be obsessed by anxiety.”
“It’s not a matter of style but attitude. Most people, when they achieve success, would rather stop.
I think you should keep improving and face all the things that come to you: ups and downs, success and failures without never stopping to try to be eleven.
Now it’s so hard to be doing well with yourself. I think self confidence needs to be trained in doing what we love.
For example, I like spending time alone in silence. I was always surrounded by a lot of people…” , she concluded.
