“We must come together to help families in need” – Roger Federer
The outbreak of coronavirus has caused serious problems in many countries around the world. Millions of people are struggling both in terms of health and economically. The pandemic is flour in poverty for the poor as they are struggling to make ends meet.
“As a humanitarian response, the Roger Federer Foundation has granted $1 million to provide nutritious meals for 64,000 vulnerable young children and their families through our partners in Africa while schools are closed,” a statement released by the Roger Federer Foundation read.
“Now more than ever we must come together to help families in need,” Federer wrote on Twitter.
Federer is always motivated to help in Africa as the continent has a special place in the Swiss Maestro’s heart. Africa is his mother’s home country and he used to visit the land during his childhood. As a child, he witnessed the poverty firsthand in Africa.
The Roger Federer Foundation supports educational projects located in the region of southern Africa and Switzerland. According to its website, the foundation has spent 52 million USD for its education initiatives conducted in 7000 primary schools and preschools. Over 1.5 million children have been benefitting through the foundation so far in the last 16 years.
Africa has reported more than 49,000 confirmed coronavirus positive cases with 16,315 recoveries so far. Federer’s contribution to the continent would certainly help many poor families to survive this pandemic. We hope more and more people contribute in any way to help vulnerable families during the global crisis.
