The COVID-19 pandemic has brought out the best in humanity across the globe. The same has held true in the tennis community. Those with influence and privilege have stood up to help out those in need.
Roger Federer was quick to help out the health officials in Switzerland, while the other two members of the Big Three did the same. And now, Andy Roddick has done his part through his foundation too.
Roger Federer is a huge humanitarian by nature. Over the course of his illustrious career, the Swiss man has always done his part in helping those less privileged than himself. His charitable foundation, the Roger Federer Foundation has done quite a lot since its inception in 2003.
Humankind, as a whole, is currently going through an ordeal in light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has gripped the globe. As always, Federer quickly took initiative and donated a million dollars to help ease the suffering of his Swiss compatriots. Many athletes took inspiration from the man and followed suit.
Roger Federer lauds Andy Roddick
The Andy Roddick Foundation has been in play since 2000. Its primary objective has been to help and support underprivileged kids. However, Roddick and his foundation knew how dire the current situation is and decided to create a Family Emergency Fund that will families in Austin, Texas through this pandemic.
Roger Federer was left ecstatic with Roddick’s endeavor and took to Twitter to express his joy.
These are more than just athletes, they are a wonderful bunch of people who are doing some commendable work to help those in need. This world would be a dark place without such honorable people.
Let’s hope more such athletes and privileged personalities follow in their footsteps and help society out of these dire conditions.
