Two best friends on the ATP Tour, Stan Wawrinka and Benoit Paire were once again LIVE on Instagram. While caring out their friendly conversation Paire asked Wawrinka regarding his compatriot, Roger Federer’s next Grand Slam victory.
“Do you think Federer is capable of winning another Slam?” Benoit asked. After seeing his longevity and competitive spirits throughout the years, Wawrinka had no doubts regarding his capabilities. Without any second thought, he said: “Yes, of course, he is capable of winning another Slam.”
However, Paire did not completely agree with Wawrinka’s words and he said, “I always think he’s not capable of winning another Slam.” Having played all these years with and against Federer, Wawrinka continued to back up his opinion with rational statistics. And, he continued to say, his compatriot has all the abilities to conquer another Grand Slam.
“There’s a difference between not being able to win and not doing anything. I think, he can but I don’t think he will win any. But, of course, he missed match points in Wimbledon,” Wawrinka explained.
“He’s was in the semi-finals in Australia this year, and he’s making deep runs in every tournament he plays. So, he’s capable of winning more because he has done it before.”
Stan Wawrinka continues to bolster his opinion
During Wimbledon 2019 finals he had two golden opportunities to pull off his 21st major crown. But sadly, the unforced error and Djokovic’s forehand passing shot denied his ninth Wimbledon crown.
Benoit further added, “I think, last year what he did against Djokovic in Wimbledon, I was sure that he would win. But now, things are becoming more and more difficult”. Then he continued addressing Stan and said, “so, you see him winning a Grand Slam?”
Wawrinka: “No, I didn’t say that.”
Paire: “So, you are saying he’s capable of winning one.”
Stan: “Yes, after seeing the current results, he is definitely capable. Last year, he had match points, like one point and the match was finished and the Grand Slam was there.”
Both Helvetians one-handers, Wawrinka and Federer have amassed laurels for their nation. Be it their, Grand Slam victories, Olympics gold medals or Davis Cup win, the country of Switzerland possess an extra special space on the tennis map in the 21st century.
