Maybe now we know the secret behind Serena Williams’ unstoppable form this year. According to Vanity Fair, she and her coach Patrick Mouratoglou are back in a relationship since last winter. They had a break up last year but now their relationship is back on good terms.
Mouratoglou has shared that the reason behind their relationship getting sour was his fight with Serena’s father Richard Williams but they have sorted out things now and he respects Richard a lot. Sharing details of the incident, Mouratoglou said that it happened after Serena’s second round loss at last year’s Wimbledon.

The Frenchman recalled that Richard came to him and shouted, “You are her coach and now tell me what happened.” Patrick replied, “First of all, if you want information you need to talk differently to me.”
According to Patrick, Serena was right behind her dad, looking amazed and shocked as no one had ever dared to talk to her father like that before. With Serena losing in the second round of Wimbledon last year, it marked the third straight Grand Slam that she failed to reach even quarter-finals.
So that must be the reason that Richard, who is also a former coach of Serena, got frustrated with her daughter’s poor series of results and made the outburst. The 23-time Grand Slam winner had confirmed her break up with Mouratoglou through a tweet last year.
Rumors were circling in tennis world about break up between Serena and Mouratoglou and then she tweeted, “To answer all your questions I’m married and I have been married so the speculations can stop.” Now that they are back in relationship, Mouratoglou believes that it would not put a bad effect on Serena’s performance rather it will get improved.
He said, “A relationship with her coach does not necessary have to be bad for an athlete, it can actually improve her performances” Apart from the downward slope last year, Mouratoglou and Serena’s professional relation has worked well for the latter.
They came together after Serena’s upset loss in the first round of French Open and since then she has won Australian Open once, French Open twice, Wimbledon once and US Open three times. Other than that, she also won her first Olympics Gold medal in singles.
Mouratoglou has not confirmed if he plans to marry Serena. He said that he would get married a third time if he meets the right person.
