The 2021 season will not only be intriguing but record-breaking too. It will be the year that fans will watch quite attentively as some big players can achieve some major milestones.
What makes it more fascinating is that World No.1 Novak Djokovic and World No.2 Rafael Nadal will be chasing those records.
If 2 of the big players are there, how can Roger Federer miss that list. However, he is the one the other two are actually chasing which will make the race even more exciting.
Novak Djokovic-standing on the verge of creating history
The Serbian legend Novak Djokovic has been the World No.1 for 301 weeks now. He is just 10 weeks away from crossing Roger Federer’s 310-week mark as No.1.
Djokovic currently leads the second-placed Nadal by 2,180 points. He will achieve the milestone if he continues to remain No.1 in the ATP rankings till March 2021.
There is a very high possibility of Djokovic to surpass Federer because the Serbian already has a great record at the Australian Open 2021.
Djokovic also ended this year as World No.1. This was the sixth time he was able to finish the year as the number 1 player equalling Pete Sampras’ record.
If Djoker finishes the 2021 season as No.1 yet again, he will set another magnificent record of ending the year as the World No.1 on most occasions (7).
Rafael Nadal can achieve 21 in 2021
If it can be a great year for Djokovic, it can be a greater year for Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard is currently tied with Roger Federer in the Grand Slam tally having 20 titles.
If he wins any Grand Slam title, it will be the first time that he’ll surpass Federer and become the player with most Grand Slam titles in the history of men’s tennis with 21 titles.
Also, Nadal will try hard to get on the top of the list of players with the most Masters 1000 titles. Rafa currently has 34 titles as compared to the 35 won by Novak Djokovic.
Similarly, if Nadal manages to finish 2021 as the World No.1 player, he’ll equal Novak Djokovic’s and Pete Sampras’ record of ending the year as the World No.1 on most occasions (6).
Thus, it will be a year when records will both be made and broken. Fans seem quite interested in it and are desperately waiting for it to begin.
