Just a few days ago Romanian, Ion Tiriac gave an interview with statements that could lead to further controversy, and that make it clear how much he does not appreciate Serena Williams, defining the American champion as too heavy to move fast and old.
Misplaced and sexist comments, which have put Tiriac at the center of criticism. He said: “At this age and the weight she has now, she doesn’t move as easily as she did 15 years ago. Serena was a sensational player.
If she had any decency, she’d retire.” Tiriac is no stranger to attacks on Serena. Back in 2018 he said, “With all due respect, Serena is 36 years old and 198 pounds.” Williams responded by defining Tiriac as ignorant, and adding: “I always say that people are entitled to their opinion.
Clearly there is more to women’s tennis than me. There is a lot more, but I will talk to him, believe me, I’ll talk to him.
It’s an ignorant comment, and it’s a sexist comment, and maybe he’s an ignorant man.”
Serena Williams’ Husband CRUSHES Ion Tiriac!
Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian attacked Ion Tiriac as a racist and sexist after the 81-year-old suggested Serena retire due to her age and weight.
“2021 and no holding back when a racist / sexist clown with a platform comes for my family,” Ohanian tweeted on Monday.
Tiriac, who is now the no. 1 of the Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid also referred to the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Olympia. Ohanian tweeted: “I had to google him (Tiriac). Turns out my 3 year old daughter has more Grand Slam wins than this clown!”
Serena Williams has won 73 career titles, including 23 Grand Slam titles. After maternity, Serena played four Grand Slam finals, two at Wimbledon and two at the US Open, losing all of them.
Last season saw Serena Williams finish just outside the Top 10 by missing the WTA Tour’s group of top players for the third time in the last four years.
For now, we know that all the greatest tennis stars on the planet, like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep and all the others, will come back for the upcoming Australian Open 2021, which will be held in Melbourne from 8 February: it will be the most awaited sports event of the first part of the new season.
It will be a very spectacular season, and all of us hope without the problems of the last one, with some presence of the crowd in the courts across the world.
Roger Federer, after he said he will not play the Australian Open, should return to the courts, to the joy of his fans, at the end of February or at the beginning of March.
