Royal commentator Neil Sean has predicted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may return to social media in order to emulate Prince William and Kate Middleton’s popularity. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle need to become ‘more relatable like Prince William and Kate Middleton’ if they are to keep any fans, claims one royal expert.
Neil Sean has also predicted that the Sussexes may even return to social media in a bid to keep up with the Cambridges. Both Harry and Meghan deactivated their social media accounts after departing from their roles as senior royals earlier this year.
The royal commentator said on his very own YouTube channel that Harry and Meghan will have been looking at how William and Kate are portraying themselves as “relatable”, reports the Express. Sean said: “It’s interesting to note that with Catherine and William, they have become incredibly relatable.
“Catherine and William have launched social media in a big way; their own YouTube channel, huge success on Instagram, and on Twitter, and they keep their fans – and I use that term loosely – updated with what they’re doing.
“Now, according to a very good source out in LA, following the success of the New York trip for Harry and Meghan, they’ve been looking closely at what makes Catherine and William very successful and relatable over here, and wondering whether they should not take that template.”
Harry and Meghan recently visited New York and took a trip up to the top of the One World Trade Center observatory. Along with this visit, the couple also supported the Global Citizen Live event, promoting fairer vaccine distribution.
However, Sean reckons their fanbase may be slipping away as they neglect their online presence. He continued: “They expect their fanbase to be there when they decide to pop up, but the digital world they live in simply doesn’t work like that.
“You have to work hard to keep the momentum going, and more importantly, be relatable and connectable.” According to YouGov’s most recent polling on the popularity of royals, Sean may have a point. William currently has a 62% popularity rating in the UK, with Kate not far behind with 60%.
On the other end of the scale, Harry sits on 33% and Meghan has a mere 28%, meaning that the only royal less popular than the Duchess is Prince Andrew. “Moving forward, we could very soon see the reactivation of levels of social media from the former royals to make sure they keep at the forefront of celebrity, publicity, and more importantly, in people’s minds,” Sean continued.
“Because as someone told them very recently, if you don’t in the land of celebrity, you could be very quickly forgotten. “That’s something that certainly Catherine and William cannot be accused of, they’re definitely riding high in the polls right now.”
