In the above interview, Novak Djokovic was asked how much consideration he gave to changing nationalities. He replied to this by saying,

“I was doing really well in the junior international tournaments so tennis agents spotted me. And we got an offer to change our nationality to British nationality. It was a very tempting offer as it would have solved all of our problems but we didn’t go for it.”

After this statement, we saw an interview with Novak’s mother where she talked about why she did not take it. She believed that her son would not play for the United Kingdom as he would for his own country. After this, Novak talked about his opinion on the offer. He said,

“Personally, I didn’t want to do it because I didn’t want to go to England where I didn’t know anybody. I wanted to stay where I had my friends, my life, my language, and my country.”

Novak is probably glad he did not leave Serbia and Serbia will be glad he didn’t leave them. He has already them proud through his many achievements but he will want to make them even prouder. And that means becoming the GOAT of tennis.

To do this, he has to hold one record – the most Grand Slam titles. He currently has 17 which is 2 short of Roger Federer’s record of 20. He is probably waiting for the next opportunity to close in on that record.

Unfortunately for him, that opportunity is a long time away as the ATP Tour has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is scheduled to return in August when he will have the opportunity to do so.
