“I was not able to give much time”: Rafael Nadal
It is the first time in his career, that the Mallorcan has started the season as a married man. However, the 33-year-old feels that ‘not much’ has been changed since his marriage in October 2019. Nadal had a short off-season last year, as the Mallorca native participated at the Davis Cup 2019.
He also played the exhibition tournament – Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi at the end of the year. Hence, he could not give much time at home after his marriage.
“Honestly not, we have been together since 2005, so 15 years together and a wedding really don’t change much and honestly after the wedding I was not able to give much time at home “doing married life,” Nadal said in an interview.
Since his marriage, he has participated in 3 ATP tournaments including the ATP World Tour Finals and has a 9-3 win-loss record. He will kick off his Australian Open 2020 campaign on Tuesday. This is Nadal’s first Grand Slam event after his wedding and will aim to improve his results in Melbourne as a defending champion.
Nadal’s favourite memory of his marriage
Talking about his best memory from that day, Nadal suggested he doesn’t know, of course, he was grateful to have all the people that the pair loved there.
“Honestly, we didn’t want to create a show off with pictures everywhere with the press. We just tried to do a private event with the people that we want it,” he said.
“Everything was fantastic, was great that people respect it. We have been a very normal couple since the beginning trying to avoid things in terms of being very proactive together on the press or this stuff. Just trying to maintain our private lives, away from all these media attention and our wedding was following the same,” the Spaniard concluded.
