The 24-time Grand Slam champion Margaret Court has changed idea about whether Serena Williams can beat her record. A month ago, the Australian legend said it would have been tough for Serena to win at least 25 Slams, but now that she won Australian Open title it’s all much easier.
‘I think she will break the record, and I think she will break it soon,’ Court said on Sunday. ‘It’s so much easier for players today to do what they do.
She hadn’t played for about three months before coming here, and it easier to do these things.
But she’s playing very well, and records are made to be broken.’ Court doesn’t regret that Serena will beat her record. ‘People keep asking me, ‘How do you feel about your record?’ but I’m not going to lose any sleep over something like that.
My life is very busy and full, and they’ll never get my 64 so it’s all right. I’ll always have that.’ The former Australian player also spoke about the differences between her time and now.
‘There was television in the early 1960s but no sponsorship and money, none of that.
Even the racquets they get to use today are so beautiful compared to what we used to have.
The facilities are so much better, they have massage people, they can bring psychologists with them as well as their trainers and coaches and whoever else they want to come along.’
