The US tennis star finished as runners-up in the Wimbledon 2018, after defeat to Angelique Kerber in the final. Serena Williams made a strong comeback to tennis as she finished as runners-up at the Wimbledon Championships this year. After many dominating performances throughout the tournament, she was finally defeated by Germany’s Angelique Kerber in straight sets, 6-3 6-3.
Williams was quite positive about her performance, saying that she was happy to get as far as she did. “It was obviously disappointing but I can’t be disappointed, I have so much to look forward to. You know I’m literally just getting started so you know I’m looking forward to it,” said Williams.
She dedicated her performances to all the mothers, stating that she will continue to play here. “To all the moms out there, I was playing out there for you today and I tried. I look forward to continuing to be back out here and do what I do best,” stated Williams.
Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, also paid tribute to Serena Williams in an Instagram post. He posted a picture which read, “just getting started.”
He wrote that Williams had gone through a major surgery and her survival was the top priority
“Days after our baby girl was born, I kissed my wife goodbye before surgery and neither of us knew if she would be coming back.
“We just wanted her to survive—10 months later, she’s in the #Wimbledon final.
“@serenawilliams will be holding a trophy again soon—she’s got the greatest one waiting at home for her. Our family knows she’ll win many more trophies, too.
She’s just getting started. And I couldn’t be more proud,” wrote Ohanian.
He also congratulated Angelique Kerber on her victory.
