He was substituted after just 17 minutes because of the problem.
The 30-year-old has suffered a number of injury issues of the last 12 months and has had problems with his hamstring, thigh, knee and ankle.
He made just 11 starts in all competitions, with a further 12 substitute appearances, as he could only score twice.
