The tennis world witnessed something extraordinary at Met Gala 2021. Two fierce rivals, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams, shared the same stage and even got captured in the same frame. It is as if both of them decided to put their previous feuds at bed and are now enjoying their time together.
Even though things look fine between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams now, there was a time when the two really got into a heated argument. Back in 2013, Serena Williams’ passed on some comments on Sharapova’s personal life that the Russian player didn’t like. She responded to the Serena’s statement in a press conference.
“At the end of the day, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what we do on the court. I just think she should be talking about her accomplishments, her achievements, rather than everything else that’s just getting attention and controversy,” said Sharapova in the press conference back then.
Sharapova looked quite stern and highlighted that Serena should be talking about her achievements instead of commenting on someone’s personal life. She even mentioned that even though she has a lot of respect for her, she is not doing the right thing.
In the same press conference, Sharapova took a dig at Serena and emphasized that even if she wants to talk about personal things, she should talk about her alleged boyfriend who even has kids. The Russian later reiterated that she should not be discussing all these things in the first place“If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship.
Her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids. Talk about other things, but not draw attention to other things. She has so much in her life, many positives. I think that’s what it should be about,” added the 5-time Grand Slam champion.
That was quite a big controversy that took place between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. However, fans seem happy that they have finally forgotten the past and are not enemies now, if not friends. Will they witness one last encounter between the two before Serena bids goodbye to the sport?
