Queen Elizabeth has a new great-grandchild! The monarch’s granddaughter, Princess Beatrice, just welcome her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Her daughter, whose name has not yet been revealed, is the newest addition to their family of four, which also includes Beatrice’s stepson, Wolfie.
In response to the happy announcement, Buckingham Palace released a statement, noting that the new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents are “delighted” with the news. On Twitter, the @RoyalFamily account, which represents Queen Elizabeth and other royals, posted a photo of Beatrice and Edoardo along with an abbreviated announcement. The full announcement was posted on the royal family website.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” the note read.
The announcement continued: “The baby weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces. The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.”
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf.”
Baby Mozzi is Queen Elizabeth’s twelfth great-grandchild. Baby Mozzi will certainly have plenty of cousins around her age—she is just a few months younger than Lucas Philip Tindall (Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall’s son) and Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor (Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s daughter). She is also close in age to first cousin August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born in February to Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Buckingham Palace announced Beatrice’s pregnancy in May, posting a statement and wedding photograph on social media. The message said that Beatrice and Edo were “very pleased” by the pregnancy. The post also noted that “the Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Beatrice and Edoardo were married last year on July 17 in an intimate ceremony in the All Saints Chapel in Windsor Great Park. The couple’s original wedding was postponed and downgraded in size, due to the Covid pandemic. Only the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, and close family attended the celebration, in keeping with government guidelines. In a touching tribute, Beatrice wore a dress that once belonged to her grandmother.
