Serena Williams has channelled her inner Mariah Carey when questioned about her friend Meghan Markle. ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, Serena said. ‘I don’t know nothing about that.
Appearing on Naomi Campbell’s ‘No Filter’ YouTube series with her sister and fellow tennis great Venus Williams, Serena was asked by the supermodel whether she was happy that her ‘girlfriend, Meghan Markle has moved to America’.
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, Serena said playfully. ‘I don’t know nothing about that.
‘I’ve never seen her, never heard of her, don’t know her,’ Serena joked before whistling while Campbell collapsed into laughter.
Elsewhere in the friendly conversation, the Williams sisters spoke about growing up together and their childhood, their passions outside of the court including both of their fashion lines and more and the origins of their names.
Serena has previously opened up about her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex, praising her, saying: ‘She couldn’t be a better friend to me. Low moments, high moments, she’s always there and that’s all I want to be to her.’
The two have been friends for several years and Serena attended the royal wedding in 2018 with her husband Alexis Ohanian.
Meghan has been seen at many of Serena’s tennis matches, even flying to New York to catch her in the US open final last year.
However in recent times, Serena has been ‘mum’ on the subject of her famous friendship. When asked about Meghan at the Australian Open in January, the mother-of-one shut down the question pretty fast, saying: ‘I have absolutely no comments on anything with that.’
Meghan and Harry have recently relocated to the former Suits actors’ hometown of Los Angeles after officially stepping back as senior members of the royal family at the end of March.
Most recently, the couple were photographed delivering food supplies to vulnerable residents amid the Coronavirus crisis.
