Rafael Nadal is quite the master of all trades.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion has solidified his footing in the world of tennis. Just this year, the Spaniard lifted his 13th Roland Garros title after downing the World No.1 Novak Djokovic, in straight-sets.
Further, Rafa is known around the tour for possessing some enviable soccer skills. However, the 34-year-old has expanded his arena, and has established himself as a remarkable golfer.
In an interview for Santander Private Banking, Nadal revealed of his possibility of making it big as a golfer after his retirement as a tennis pro.
“Golf Is Not Very Difficult To Play” – Nadal
Nadal finished sixth in the standings when he competed in the professional circuit of golf. This is indicative of the skill he possesses in golf, whilst being in the top ranks in tennis.
The Spaniard spoke of the difference in physical demands of the two sports.
“I don’t think they are interchangeable. I think golf, as a sport unto itself, it’s not very difficult to play. Playing golf at an amateur level is much easier than tennis. At the end of the day, for tennis, you need a physical shape.
Not everyone (is up to it). Golf, everyone can play, like people who aren’t as physically prepared can play well. When it comes to tennis, I think you need a specific physical shape to be a professional. That’s hard,” Nadal said.
Moreover, the World No.2 recognized that competing at the professional level in golf will require toil on his behalf. Hence, he will likely not be doing so.
He added, “As a sport, golf is easier. As a professional athlete, I can play golf. From there, playing golf professionally, that’s quite the leap.”
As for the Spaniard’s tennis career, Rafa is still the dominant force that he was almost two decades ago. He will next be seen in action at the Australian Open 2021.
