Twenty three-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has said that despite all the successes she’s had in women’s tennis she still hasn’t reached the place where she feels she could accomplish anything.
Have always believed in living every moment, says Serena Williams
Appearing on a chat show hosted by singer Kelly Clarkson, Serena said she is still “growing to that place” where nothing seems beyond her.
The remark is, perhaps, an indication that despite conquering many frontiers and inspiring women to juggle career and motherhood, Serena still has a lot to prove to herself as a professional.
“I’m still looking for those moments, I never really felt like I made it to that moment. I have always felt like I am still growing to that place,” Serena said.
“Never really understand what I’m doing”: Serena
She revealed that she has never taken a moment to look back at her career and assess how far she has come.
“I never really understand what I’m doing or what I’ve done like I don’t really look and think. So I still feel like I am in this place where I’m still living and trying to make the best of each moment,” the American said.
She added that she has always practiced living in the moment.
That’s kind of how I have always approached my life, my career and my job and, I just never really think about it like that,” Serena explained.
However, things haven’t been as rosy on the career front in recent years as the American hasn’t been able to add to her Major titles since 2017. She reached four Grand Slam finals but fell at the last hurdle. Even at the US Open this year, she lost in the semifinal to Belarussian Victoria Azarenka.
However, that hasn’t taken away from Serena’s zeal and determination to stay in the professional circuit and keep competing for titles. Though age isn’t on her side, the 39-year-old has dismissed all retirement talk and is already into her off-season training to return next season.
Her last Major title came at the 2017 Australian Open, but she hasn’t landed trophy luck since.
